Municipal Museum - Killingerhaus

The municipal museum, situated in the Killingerhaus, presents a vivid picture of the history of Idstein over the last 900 years. You will find numerous exhibits originating from different centuries composed with great care and attention.
The focuses of the museum are on folklore, town history, scholastic history, on life of the bourgeoisie and the peasant population of the 18th and 19th century as well as on handicraft and trade.
The information given here ranges from Church history, urban development, building history over self-government, civil rights and civic duties. The history of the original castle and the Palace, the history of the Walram part of the house of Nassau and the scholastic history are other focuses of this part of the museum.
Life of the bourgeoisie and the peasant population of the 18th and 19th century, handicraft and trade and the history of the Idstein leather industry are the main aspects presented here. Exhibition "At eye level on two walls" - works of the Idstein painter Ernst Toepfer.
Annexe building, Obergasse 1
Exhibition "7 stones - 7 lives". About the lives of Julius, Erna and Bertel Lore Kahn, of Julius, Hedwig and Herta Grünebaum and of Eugenie Goldschmidt. These Jewish families became victims of expulsion and the Holocaust.
This exhibition has been created with the assistance of students of the Pestalozzi grammar school, Idstein and of the integrated comprehensive school Wallrabenstein.
