Ancient Courthouse

Altes Amtsgericht

According to the number above the entry to the cellar, the solid stone building with its half-timbered gable and stair-tower was built as the “New Office” in 1588 by Count Johann-Ludwig I of Nassau-Idstein. In 1866, Nassau became Prussian and from 1867-1938 the building took the role of what its current name still implies: it was the seat of the local court for the Idstein district. Nowadays, the city administration uses the different floors for various purposes.
